All of the AVHRR time-series products are maximum-value NDVI ("greenness") composites, which are based on a time series of daily calibrated and georegistered AVHRR observations. Maximum values for each location have been combined to obtain a nearly cloud-free coverage.
The following products are available for the conterminous United States:
There is also a twice-monthly composite available for Alaska.
NDVI composites are available from January 1989 to present. All composites are available, at no charge, via FTP. Go to Earthexplorer.usgs.gov for more information and to access these data.
The data product includes all acquired AVHRR bands, NDVI, satellite zenith, solar zenith, relative azimuth, atmospherically corrected with water vapor and ozone channels 1 & 2, qc band, and acquisition date. Projection is Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area for the U.S., and Albers Equal-Area Conic for Alaska. Resolution is 1km, and the data is in a binary 8-bit raster format.
